高校は杜若高等学校に入学しますが、ジャニーズ事務所に所属していたため、夏休みは東京の合宿所でずっと過ごしていました。
高校1年生の2学期から学校に行かなくなり、休学を経て退学し仕事に専念しています。

男闘呼組はレコードデビュー後に第30回日本レコード大賞で最優秀新人賞を受賞しています。
早々にNHK紅白歌合戦に出場し、1989年には東京ドームでコンサートを成功させ、その後に2度目のNHK紅白歌合戦出場を果たしました。
男闘呼組は1993年に解散し、成田昭次さんは1995年にジャニーズ事務所も離れています。
